Ghana and Japan reaffirmed their strong partnership by signing an agreement to further develop the National Trunk Road N8. The project, funded by a Japanese grant, will improve the road’s safety and structural integrity.
The signing ceremony took place on April 12th, 2024, with Deputy Foreign Minister Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong representing Ghana and Japanese Ambassador Mochizuki Hisanobu signing for Japan.
Ampratwum-Sarpong acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the two nations and Japan’s consistent support for Ghana’s development goals. He praised Japan for being a dependable development partner.
Ambassador Hisanobu expressed appreciation for Ghana’s collaboration and pledged Japan’s ongoing commitment to future projects and areas of mutual interest. He highlighted the increased funding, bringing Japan’s total contribution to the project from 6.849 billion Japanese Yen to 6.88 billion Yen (approximately $50 million USD).
These additional funds will be used to strengthen the N8, a vital economic artery connecting Cape Coast and Kumasi.
