Lusaka, Zambia – April 16, 2024 – Kenyan High Commissioner Flora Karugu recently paid a farewell visit to Zambia’s Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen.
The meeting at Lusaka’s Charter House served as an opportunity to highlight the strong and enduring ties between Zambia and Kenya. Both officials acknowledged the successful mid-Term Review of the Zambia-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation, held in Nairobi in 2022. This review paved the way for President Hakainde Hichilema’s subsequent State Visit to Kenya, which yielded six Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).
These MOUs aim to deepen collaboration in key areas like tourism, trade and investment, agriculture, and information and communication technology. The agreements hold the potential to unlock shared prosperity for both nations.
Permanent Secretary Gundersen and High Commissioner Karugu pledged to ensure the effective implementation of these MOUs, maximizing the benefits for their respective citizens. Gundersen commended High Commissioner Karugu’s efforts in strengthening bilateral relations, while Karugu expressed her gratitude for the Zambian government’s support during her tenure.
