Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Frederick Shava has said his country will uphold continuous relationship with the European Union (EU).
The minister stated that Zimbabwe and EU will maintain exponentially beneficial relationship.
Ambassador Shava spoke at an event held in Harare, to celebrate the Europe Day. He affirmed the Zimbabwe’s government commitment to institute policies that is centered on the people and better improve international relations.
While appreciating the EU’s support in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Shava said there is a need to build a win-win outcome.
“My Government appreciates the European Union’s commitment to charting a new positive trajectory towards improving our relations. We appreciate these efforts and hope that we will continue to enhance the relations between the Government and the European Union for mutual benefit and win-win outcomes,” the minister said.
Ambassador Shava assured that the Government of Zimbabwe is committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of its citizens. This he said is made possible with the support of EU through the implementation of comprehensive and system-wide reforms across all spheres of life and sectors of our economy.
The election in Zimbabwe is set to hold this year and the government called on the EU to support its readiness to conduct free and fair polls.
“In the coming few months, Zimbabwe will hold harmonised elections as testimony of our commitment to democracy and democratic processes,” Ambassador Shava stated.
The Foreign Affairs minister strongly believe that the Zimbabweans will be peaceful in electing new leaders for the country. He maintained that the EU’s support will facilitate the work of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in delivering its mandate.
While giving his remarks, EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jobst Von Kirchmann said the bloc is committed to helping Zimbabwe to succeed in its Vision 2030 plan. He noted that the debt resolution platform by the Zimbabwe government will help the country in achieving an upper middle income economy.
“As the EU, we want Zimbabwe to succeed in its Vision 2030 and I believe the recent platform for arrears clearance and debt resolution which was pushed forward and initiated by the Government of Zimbabwe is a fantastic process,” he said.
EU’s Ambassador commented on the election to be held in Zimbabwe in few months, highlighting the importance of free and fair polls as a step in the right direction.
Ambassador Kirchmann hinted that the upcoming harmonised elections will be a great opportunity to accelerate Zimbabwe’s economic process.
