The African Development Bank Group has been a leading force in driving sustainable development across the continent, and as climate change continues to pose significant challenges, the bank recognizes the urgency of accelerating efforts to mitigate its impacts and promote environmentally friendly growth. By harnessing the potential of the private sector, the AfDB aims to encourage innovation, scale up investments, and ensure sustainable economic transformation throughout Africa.

The Annual Meetings, scheduled to take place from May 22 to May 26, will serve as a crucial platform for policymakers, investors, development partners, and other stakeholders to come together and identify concrete strategies and initiatives to mobilize private sector financing for climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts in Africa. The AfDB acknowledges that addressing climate change requires collective action and innovative solutions from governments, private businesses, civil society, and individuals alike.

Mobilizing private sector financing is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the ambitious climate targets set by African nations. By leveraging the expertise and resources of private companies, the AfDB intends to unlock new funding streams and drive the implementation of transformative climate projects. These initiatives could include renewable energy infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, resilient urban planning, and innovative climate adaptation measures.
