July 27, 2023 – Chargé d’Affaires Earl Miller marked a significant achievement as he inaugurated a new block of three classrooms at Mahlabaneni High School. The U.S. Embassy proudly collaborated with the Mahlabaneni community to construct these classrooms under the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program. With a contribution of approximately 137,000 Emalangeni from the U.S. Embassy and dedicated efforts from the Mahlabaneni community, this remarkable facility has come to life.
This joint effort between the U.S. government and the Mahlabaneni community exemplifies our dedication to uplifting communities like Mahlabaneni, which are committed to their own economic and social betterment. Investing in communities that invest in themselves stands as a potent means to create enduring positive transformations. The impact of the new high school resonates deeply, addressing a crucial requirement for a local educational institution. Prior to this initiative, students endured arduous journeys of over 7 km to reach the nearest high school. This not only hampered their academic progress but also exposed them to various risks, including teenage pregnancies and substance abuse.
We extend our applause to Mr. Praise Dlamini, the headteacher of Mahlabaneni Primary School, as well as the dedicated project team, community leaders, parents, U.S. Distillers, Crooks Plantations, Batch Farms, and the entire community. This achievement reflects the vision, unity, and persistence of the people of Mahlabaneni. Congratulations to the extraordinary individuals of Mahlabaneni for your unwavering commitment, cooperation, and tireless efforts.
