A new partnership between the Market-Oriented Value Chains for Jobs and Growth in the ECOWAS Region (GIZ MOVE) and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) was announced on August 9, 2023. The partnership aims to support the Nigerian cashew and rice sectors by providing capacity building, conducting studies, and enhancing value addition and processing competitiveness.
GIZ MOVE will provide technical support and funding to the NEPC to help it implement the partnership’s activities. The MoU will run for a period of three years and GIZ MOVE will provide a total of €1 million in funding. The NEPC will provide in-kind support for the project.
The partnership is expected to create over 10,000 jobs in the Nigerian cashew and rice sectors. It is also expected to increase exports of cashew and rice from Nigeria and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Florian Winckler, Team Leader of GIZ MOVE, said: “We are excited to partner with the NEPC to support the growth of the Nigerian cashew and rice sectors. These are important sectors for Nigeria’s economy and we believe that our partnership will help to create jobs, boost exports, and contribute to economic growth.”
Evelyn Obidike, Director for Product Development at the NEPC, said: “We are grateful to GIZ MOVE for their partnership. This partnership will be a major boost for the Nigerian cashew and rice sectors. We look forward to working with GIZ MOVE to implement this project and achieve our goals.”
