Berlin, Germany – Zambia’s new ambassador to Germany, Winnie Chibesakunda, presented her Letters of Credence to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Friday, October 27, 2023.
During the ceremony at Schloss Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the German president, Steinmeier conveyed his warm regards to his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema, and thanked him for appointing Chibesakunda.
Steinmeier also praised Zambia’s economic reforms and pledged Germany’s support for programs aimed at alleviating poverty in the country. He stressed that Germany was ready to enhance its economic cooperation with Zambia, given the positivity of the current government under Hichilema’s leadership.

In response, Chibesakunda conveyed fraternal greetings from Hichilema and the Zambian people. She expressed her sincere gratitude for the opportunity to present her Letters of Credence and said it was a sign of the warm bilateral relations shared between Germany and Zambia.
Chibesakunda noted that the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries date back to 1964, when Zambia gained independence. She said the two countries continue to enjoy and strengthen their bilateral relations.
She pointed out that Zambia and Germany have cordial economic cooperation and that she looks forward to expanding and opening up new areas of economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
Chibesakunda also stated that Zambia remains committed to initiatives aimed at achieving global peace and security, as instability in any part of the world has negative effects everywhere.
