Ottawa, Canada – In a ceremony on Wednesday, June 26 at Rideau Hall Ballroom, His Excellency Furkat Sidikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan, began his diplomatic mission in Canada by presenting his credentials to Her Excellency Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada
Ambassador Sidikov, whose jurisdiction extends to Canada, previously presented his credentials to President Joe Biden on May 1, 2023, starting his role as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to the United States.
The ceremony included two other diplomatic representatives: His Excellency Appolinaire Aya, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Congo, and His Excellency Di Wang, Ambassador-designate of the People’s Republic of China. Welcoming the Ambassadors, Governor General Simon said, “Today’s ceremony is a reminder that we are here to build bridges, exchange ideas, explore avenues for cooperation and keep the channels of communication open.”
Before the official ceremony, Ambassador Sidikov submitted copies of his credentials to Yasemin Heinbecker, Deputy Chief Protocol of Global Affairs Canada. He appreciated the warm reception and looked forward to working closely with Canadian officials.
Furthermore, Ambassador Sidikov took to Twitter after the ceremony to express his gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honored to present my credentials to Her Excellency Mary Simon, the distinguished Governor General of Canada. This momentous ceremony at Rideau Hall marked the official start of my diplomatic mission in Canada.”
During his visit to Canada, Ambassador Sidikov held several meetings. He discussed potential agricultural cooperation with leaders from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
The Ambassador met with Rob Stewart, Deputy Minister of Trade of Canada, to explore ways to improve bilateral economic relations. They discussed organizing trade missions and increasing import and export opportunities between the two countries.
In addition, Ambassador Sidikov spoke with Andreas Weichert, Director of Eastern Europe and Eurasia at Global Affairs Canada, about developing Uzbekistan-Canadian bilateral relations.
Ambassador Sidikov commenced his mission with optimism, ready to explore new opportunities for collaboration and partnership between Uzbekistan and Canada.
The credential ceremony and subsequent meetings mark the beginning of a new chapter in Uzbek-Canadian relations.
