The Kingdom of Belgium’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Daniel Bertrand paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. His visit to the minister was his first since he resumed as Ambassador-designate in Nigeria.
While they shared ideas and compared notes on viable options of diplomatic collaborations, Amb. Bertrand reiterated the preference of Nigeria as a business destination for many Belgian business communities.
According to Amb. Bertrand, Nigeria is economically attractive and remains Africa’s major destination for foreign investments. He reiterated Nigeria’s viability, saying that it is the ‘largest economy in Africa and a regional leader in science and technology.’ The visit came on the heels of an already existing memorandum between both countries to affirm their diplomatic relations, build a stronger bilateral relation, especially in the areas of greater innovations, science, and technology.

In his remark, the minister of science admonished Nigeria’s resolve to affirm its diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Belgium, and deepen them where necessary.
In his long remark, the minister spoke about the ministry’s giant strides in science, technology, and innovation, especially in agriculture and manufacturing. He concluded by stating -to the Belgian ambassador- the desire of the government of Nigeria to ensure that Belgian investors and businesses receive the necessary assistance whenever they seek to invest in the country.
