Moroccan and Beninese Foreign Ministers, Nasser Bourita and Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, held a pivotal phone call on Tuesday, solidifying their nations’ bond and paving the way for enhanced cooperation and diplomatic presence.
Minister Bakari reaffirmed Benin’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and hailed the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as critical to resolving the Sahara dispute. Benin also plans to establish a consulate in Laayoune, demonstrating its commitment to the region’s development.
Both ministers agreed to convene the 7th Moroccan-Beninese Joint Cooperation Commission in Cotonou, Benin, early in 2024, aiming to bolster bilateral cooperation and solidify their strong ties.
Morocco pledged to increase training opportunities for Beninese officials, fostering knowledge exchange and capacity building. Additionally, Morocco is considering visa exemption for Beninese citizens holding ordinary passports, facilitating travel and movement.
Benin citizens will benefit from the e-Visa system starting January 1st, 2024, streamlining the application process and making travel to Morocco simpler and more convenient.
The telephone conversation concluded with both ministers expressing optimism about the future trajectory of the bilateral relationship and a joint commitment to nurturing friendly relations between Morocco and Benin.
