The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is scheduled to visit London later today. A press release from the presidency says that the president would travel to the UK on “May 3rd, 2023, to witness King Charles III’s coronation.”
It also stated that, “in order to take advantage of the summit of world leaders taking place in London, the Commonwealth Secretariat will convene a Commonwealth Summit for Presidents and Heads of Government of Commonwealth countries on May 5.”
The Summit, which will emphasize the importance of youth and the future of the Commonwealth, is anticipated to include participation from President Buhari.
A delegation -to London- led by the president will include Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation, Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture Maj.-Gen Babagana Monguno (Rtd), National Security Adviser (NSA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and some other senior officials.
On September 8, 2022, Charles’ mother passed away, making him the new monarch of the UK and 14 other Commonwealth states. After surpassing Edward VII’s record of 59 years on April 20, 2011, he was the British heir apparent with the longest tenure.
