The Czech capital, Prague, will host a security forum called GLOBSEC from August 31 to September 1, 2024.
The forum will cover a wide range of European security issues, with a particular focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine, the conflicts in the Middle East, and the challenges of achieving peace. Foreign policy expert and former Slovak Minister of International Relations Pavol Demeš, highlights other key topics like transatlantic cooperation, US elections, developments in the Indo-Pacific, overcoming societal polarization, social cohesion, and resistance to hybrid threats. Additionally, discussions will address energy, climate change, migration, new technologies, innovations, and artificial intelligence.
Estimates suggest around 2,000 guests from over 70 countries will participate in the forum, including ten heads of state or government and about 20 foreign affairs and defense ministers.
Organized by the eponymous non-governmental organization (NGO), GLOBSEC has a 19-year history. Previously held in Bratislava, Slovakia, in close collaboration with government institutions, the forum has become one of the most respected forums in Central Europe, attracting participation from prominent world statesmen. However, this year, the Slovak government chose not to collaborate with the internationally recognized NGO. Fortunately, the organizers found support in the neighboring Czech Republic, where the patronage of the already 19th forum was accepted by Czech President Petr Pavel.
We will keep you updated on interesting developments on the Diplomatic Watch pages.
