The Japanese government has announced that South Korea and China, alongside the Japanese foreign minister, will have a trilateral foreign ministers meeting in the country’s capital, Tokyo, on March 22.According to a statement by government officials, the foreign ministers of the three countries will be hosted by Japan’s Takeshi Iwaya between March 21 and 23.

The foreign minister of South Korea, Cho Tae-yul, and Chinese Wang Yi are expected to arrive in Tokyo a day before the meeting begins.

This will be the first time the foreign ministers of the three countries will be meeting since they last met in November 2023 in Busan, the economic and cultural center in the southeastern part of South Korea.

It will also be the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister since the former foreign minister visited Japan in 2023.The statement from government officials in Tokyo says that during the meeting, the three diplomats will discuss ways to work together so as to address mutual issues such as increasing relations through tourism and seeking ways to tackle low birth rates and aging populations.

As part of the country’s diplomatic and economic drive, the government in Tokyo plans to have a high-level economic discussion with China. It is expected to be an exclusive meeting involving the foreign and economic ministers of both countries.
