Rev. Canon Dr. Simon Jones has been granted royal approval by King Charles to assume the prestigious position of Dean of Lincoln Cathedral, succeeding The Very Reverend Christine Wilson.
Dr. Jones, currently serving as Chaplain and Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, brings a wealth of experience and academic pedigree to his new role. Educated at the renowned College of St Hild and St Bede, Durham, and Selwyn College, Cambridge, he underwent ministerial training at Westcott House, Cambridge, and was ordained as a priest in 2000. Prior to his tenure at Merton College, he served in the Diocese of Gloucester.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jones has held esteemed positions, including Honorary Canon of Christ Church, Oxford, and as a Wiccamical Prebendary of Chichester Cathedral. His active involvement with the Church of England Liturgical Commission and chairmanship of the steering committee of the International Anglican Liturgical Consultation highlight his dedication to ecclesiastical matters.
Dr. Jones’s leadership prowess was evident during his interim stint as Dean of Lincoln in 2023, showcasing his capability and strategic vision for the cathedral and its community.
