The Kuwaiti Embassy in London served as the center for the celebration of Kuwaiti culture and the strong ties between Kuwait and the United Kingdom. The event coincided with the 125th anniversary of the partnership between the two nations.
Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UK, Badr Al-Awadhi, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in fostering friendship and cooperation. He expressed appreciation to both governments and the Al-Sadu Society, a non-profit dedicated to preserving Kuwaiti textile heritage, for their collaboration in bringing this distinguished event to life.
The week-long exhibition, titled “Mawra the Loom: Contemporary Expressions of the Art of Sadu,” showcased a variety of modern artworks inspired by traditional Sadu textiles. Kuwaiti artists reimagined this cultural touchstone through various mediums, including textiles, jewelry, furniture, and even modern vehicle designs.
Lord Tariq Ahmad, the British Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the United Nations, attended the opening ceremony. His presence underlined the UK’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Kuwait.
Sheikha Bibi Duaij Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Al-Sadu Society, expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti Embassy for its support. She explained that the exhibition aimed to promote Kuwaiti heritage in a fresh and innovative way, bridging the past with the present through artistic expression.
