Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs recently met with non-resident Ambassadors from Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Portugal in Riga to strengthen EU ties. The meeting aimed to bolster Latvia’s support for enhancing relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Rinkēvičs highlighted the shared values and goals between the European Union (EU) and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), reaffirming Latvia’s commitment to strengthening EU-LAC relations, particularly during the upcoming Spanish Presidency.
The EU-CELAC Summit, scheduled for July in Brussels, is expected to be a catalyst for increased cooperation between the regions. Latvia’s vision aligns with the summit’s focus on trade, investment, and collaboration in the high-tech and digital sectors.
To promote more active engagement, Rinkēvičs proposed establishing an embassy in Riga, fostering stronger ties with Latin American and Caribbean countries.
