President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and U.S. President Donald Trump connected by phone on September 5, 2025. Their conversation turned immediate commitment into a clear set of steps forward. Trump praised Uzbekistan’s ongoing economic reforms. Mirziyoyev returned the gesture, noting the U.S. administration’s successes in both domestic and global affairs.

They reviewed real-world collaboration across the economy, security, education, energy, agriculture, finance, technology, and innovation. They noted that trade grew by 15 percent in 2024, and that project pipelines now span civil aviation, critical minerals, energy, digital tech, and education.

They agreed to hold a series of bilateral meetings this month with leading U.S. companies and institutions aimed at forging long-term, sustainable ties.

On security, both parties discussed coordinated efforts against terrorism, extremism, and illegal migration. They also noted expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges, including U.S. university branches operating in Tashkent, and that Uzbekistan’s national football team will compete in the U.S. World Cup next year.

They exchanged views on regional and global affairs, including deeper engagement through the C5+1 dialogue between Central Asian states and the United States.

Mirziyoyev extended an invitation to Trump for an official visit to Uzbekistan at a mutually convenient time. They agreed to maintain consistent, high-level contact to advance cooperation.

From the Uzbek side, the administration described the exchange as held in an open, constructive, and friendly atmosphere.

A few days earlier, on August 28, Mirziyoyev hosted U.S. Special Envoy Paolo Zampolli. They reviewed progress toward an expanded strategic partnership, marked by active political engagement, inter-parliamentary contacts, and increased trade. In 2024, bilateral trade increased by 15 percent, and the project portfolio, encompassing all sectors, surpassed $11 billion. Their discussions included planning an Expanded Strategic Partnership dialogue for autumn.
