Seattle welcomed an experienced Diplomat, Prakash Gupta, as the first Consul General of India’s brand-new consulate. Mr. Gupta steps into this key role after a globe-trotting career spanning from Beijing and Shanghai to the UN in New York and Jakarta.
With over two decades under his belt, Mr. Gupta’s career paints a picture of dedication and versatility. He sharpened his policy and research skills early on, then tackled political and cultural affairs in China, even mastering Mandarin. As Consul in Shanghai, he juggled commercial, consular, and visa matters, proving his ability to handle complex situations.
But Mr. Gupta’s impact goes beyond borders. He handled media relations during Prime Ministerial visits abroad and addressed critical issues such as UN reform and cybersecurity at the UN in New York, demonstrating his understanding of global politics.
Back in Shanghai as Consul General, he honed his leadership skills, then deepened his understanding of Southeast Asia as Deputy Chief of Mission in Indonesia. Returning to India, he played a vital role in the successful G20 Summit, coordinating logistics and planning. Most recently, he oversaw India’s historic UN Security Council tenure and navigated diverse issues like democracy and multilateral relations.
Mr. Gupta’s arrival marks a new era for India’s Pacific Northwest engagement. The consulate’s vast reach, covering nine states, reflects the region’s growing importance. And Mr. Gupta is ready to lead this expansion. A top priority on his agenda: establishing a direct flight between India and Seattle, a move that would boost business, tourism, and cultural ties.
With his vast experience, diplomatic finesse, and dedication to building connections, Mr. Gupta is well-positioned to steer India’s Seattle consulate to success. He brings not just technical expertise but also a human touch, cultural understanding, and a passion for lasting relationships.
The Consulate has jurisdiction over Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Alaska, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota, making it one of the largest areas covered by any Indian Consulate in the country.
