Nigerian President HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday for a three-day visit, following an official visit to the Gulf country.
Tinubu and his delegation were greeted at Hamad International Airport by HE Director of the Department of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahim bin Yousef Fakhro, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria, Dr. Ali bin Ghanem Al Hajri, and HE Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy to the State of Qatar, Rabiu Suleiman.
In a statement issued by Tinubu’s media team, Ajuri Ngelale stated that Tinubu was responding to an invitation from His Highness, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas, including security, cultural exchange, and economic development.
During his visit, President Tinubu will witness the signing of several agreements aimed at boosting Nigeria’s real sector and attracting value-added investments in trade, education, culture, solid minerals, the digital economy, agriculture, and gas, as well as fostering counter-terrorism cooperation.
The President will also attend the Nigeria-Qatar Business Summit, which is hosted by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and the Qatar Chamber.
Meanwhile, Hon Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs, stated that they are laying the groundwork for increased economic and bilateral cooperation, which will bring together top executives from both the private and public sectors of Nigeria and Qatar to advance cross-sectoral opportunities for mutually beneficial growth and development.
The minister stated that the summit on March 3 will primarily focus on developing a blueprint for a sustainable economic engagement model for future international partnerships.
Senior government officials accompanied the President on the trip to sign agreements.
There are currently approximately 12,000 Nigerians residing in Qatar, working in a variety of industries including oil and gas, construction, medical and healthcare, aviation, tourism, and academia.
