The Migration Enlightenment Project Nigeria (MEPN), a diaspora initiative, will hold a ‘Stakeholders’ Roundtable Dialogue on Migration’ – a series of consultation with civil society, in Abuja on 18 August.

The event, which takes place at Reiz Continental Hotel in the Central District of the FCT, is part of the activities of the MEPN, a public awareness campaign promoting safe migration in Nigeria.

The Stakeholders’ Roundtable Dialogue brings together youths, students, parents and multipliers, such as journalists, artists and religious leaders, among others, to exchange ideas and experiences on the issue.

According to a statement signed by Kenneth Gbandi and Femi Awoniyi – co-directors of the MEPN, the Dialogue series “seeks to engender a better understanding of the many sides of migration with the ultimate objective of putting an end to the unnecessary suffering and deaths of young Nigerians who are misled into irregularly migrating to Europe.”

After Abuja, the MEPN will move to Enugu, Lagos and Benin-City in the continuation of the Dialogue series, whose aim is to promote a realistic perception of migration in the country.

The MEPN, a Germany-based Nigerian diaspora initiative, is currently carrying out an information campaign in Nigeria to raise public awareness of the dangers and risks of irregular migration.

The MEPN, whose campaign is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also provides information on legal ways to migrate while encouraging young Nigerians not to overlook opportunities available to them at home.
