The government of N’Djamena has announced that Germany’s ambassador to Chad, Jan Christian Gordon Kricke, will be expelled within 48 hours due to his “impolite attitude” and failure to adhere to diplomatic norms.
The government did not provide an official reason for his expulsion. Government spokesperson Aziz Mahamat Saleh has called for Kricke to leave the country immediately.
The German Embassy has not received any official communication on the matter, according to an anonymous source who learned of the news through social media. Kricke has previously served as a diplomat in several other countries.
A government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Kricke had been warned on several occasions about interfering in the country’s governance and making divisive statements.
The military junta took power in Chad following the death of President Idriss Deby Itno, who had ruled for 30 years. The embassy, along with other countries, expressed concern over the delayed return to democracy.
