The government of Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is set to inaugurate the biggest refinery in Africa and the world’s biggest single-train refinery.
Dangote Refinery is a facility designed to process Nigeria’s crude oil and produce about 650,000 barrels per day. The plant cost about $19billion.
Located in the Lekki Free Zone area of Lagos State, Nigeria (the country’s commercial center), Dangote Refinery is expected to cover a land area of approximately 2,635 hectares.
The refinery is to handle 3 Billion Standard Cubic Foot of gas per day, making the Pipeline infrastructure at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery the largest anywhere in the world, with 1,100 kilometers.
The inauguration of Dangote Refinery is scheduled to hold May 22, 2023, with a capacity to create a market for $21 billion per annum of Nigerian crude oil.
According to information made available on the company’s site, Dangote Refinery will be the biggest in Africa and also the biggest single-train refinery in the world, because the facility is a multi-billion dollar project with a single-train refinery that uses integrated distillation unit or one Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) to refine crude oil into various petroleum products. This is against the use of multiple distillation units by most big refineries.
According to report made available, the refinery has a 435MW Power Plant and it is expected to meet 100 per cent of the Nigerian requirement of all refined products with a surplus to export.
Earlier today, Special Assistant to Nigeria’s President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, revealed that the refinery is set for inauguration. It is expected to boost the refining of crude oil in the country.
“Efforts by the Federal Government to make Nigeria self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil to save the scarce foreign exchange used in the importation of petroleum products have received a boost as the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari,” the president’s media aide said
