KINSHASA, DRC – In a significant effort to bolster bilateral relations between the Republic of South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Naledi Pandor, led a high-level delegation to attend the 12th Session of the Bi-National Commission in Kinshasa. The meeting took place on July 4th, 2023.
The Ministerial Meeting saw the participation of key figures from both nations, reflecting the commitment to fostering cooperation across various sectors. Among those accompanying Minister Pandor were Mr. Gwede Mantashe, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy; Mr. Bheki Cele, the Minister of Police; Ms. Lindiwe Zulu, the Minister of Social Development; Mr. Ebrahim Patel, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition; and Mr. Aaron Motsoaledi, the Minister of Home Affairs.
During the session, the delegates engaged in constructive dialogues on various issues, including trade and investment, energy cooperation, security, social development, and immigration matters. The aim was to find common ground and identify areas where joint efforts could yield significant benefits for both countries.
Minister Pandor stressed the need for increased economic integration, stressing that enhanced cooperation in trade and industry would lead to mutual prosperity. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of addressing security concerns and collaborating on law enforcement to combat transnational crimes effectively.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the respective ministers to hold bilateral discussions on specific matters concerning their portfolios. This approach facilitated in-depth exchanges of ideas and expertise, laying the groundwork for future partnerships in various sectors.
