Dhaka, Bangladesh – Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, MP attended a Roundtable Discussion titled ‘Materializing Japan-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership: Diplomatic, Economic and People-to-People Relations’ at the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka. The event was organized by a Japan-based think tank, Pan-Asia Research Institute (PARI). Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Mr. Iwama Kiminori also attended the event as the Special Guest.
In his speech, the State Minister highlighted the historical connections between Bangladesh and Japan that date back to before Bangladesh’s independence. He referred to the recent visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Japan in April 2023, during which the two countries announced a new Strategic Partnership. The State Minister expressed his hope that both Bangladesh and Japan would work together to fully realize the potential of this partnership.
He stressed the need for enhanced engagement in areas such as agriculture, export, and manpower. He also expressed his hope for increased people-to-people connectivity and cooperation with Japan in regional, sub-regional, and multilateral fora.
The State Minister acknowledged Japan’s invaluable contributions to Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of development assistance and disaster relief. He expressed his confidence that Japan would continue to support Bangladesh in its efforts to achieve its development goals.
