Qatar has reaffirmed its support for the Sudanese people to overcome the current crisis. The State of Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, made the statement during an interactive dialogue on the High Commissioner’s oral update on Sudan at the 54th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al Muftah said that Qatar is committed to promoting and protecting human rights in Sudan and ensuring its stability, security, unity, and territorial integrity. She called on parties to the conflict in Sudan to resort to the voice of reason, give priority to public interest, and pursue dialogue as a means of resolving disputes.
Al Muftah also reiterated Qatar’s support for the Joint Saudi-US Initiative and welcomed other regional and international endeavors to end the crisis in Sudan. She said that Qatar is closely following the humanitarian situation in Sudan and has been providing essential humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people since the crisis began.
“The State of Qatar calls on all parties to the conflict in Sudan to put an end to the violence and bloodshed, and to engage in a meaningful dialogue that leads to a comprehensive and sustainable peace agreement,” Al Muftah said. “The Sudanese people deserve to live in peace and security, and we stand with them in their efforts to overcome this crisis.”
Qatar has a long history of supporting Sudan. In recent years, Qatar has provided Sudan with financial assistance, humanitarian aid, and technical expertise. Qatar has also played a leading role in mediating between the Sudanese government and opposition groups.
The current crisis in Sudan began in 2021, when the country’s military overthrew the civilian-led government. The coup sparked widespread protests and violence, and the country is now facing a humanitarian crisis.
Qatar’s renewed commitment to support Sudan is a welcome development. The country’s assistance will be critical to helping the Sudanese people overcome the current crisis and build a more stable and prosperous future.
