His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali extended a warm invitation to European businesses, urging them to consider Guyana as a strategic location for growth and expansion.
The President made his remarks during the opening ceremony of the inaugural European Union’s Global Gateway Economic Mission to Guyana, held at the Marriott Hotel on October 4, 2023.
“Guyana is strategically placed to grow and expand your businesses due to its proximity, reach, and drive,” President Ali asserted, highlighting the country’s economic prospects, business opportunities, and development trajectory.
He painted a compelling vision for Guyana’s future, emphasizing the country’s commitment to sustainable and resilient development. “Once you invest in Guyana,” he stated, “you will have an opportunity to be part of one of the most sustainable, resilient, and comprehensive stories of development that will evolve in the world in 2030 and beyond.”

President Ali envisioned Guyana’s transformation into a global leader in climate action, food security, and energy sustainability. “A small developing country is becoming one of the most aggressive, modern, scientifically driven, bedded on research and development,” he declared.
The two-day mission drew approximately two dozen companies from over ten European nations, showcasing the significant interest in Guyana’s burgeoning economy.
The Senior Minister within the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, the Honourable Dr. Ashni Singh, joined President Ali in welcoming the European delegation. Other government ministers, the EU Ambassador to Guyana, HE René van Nes, and other officials were also present at the opening ceremony.
