Istanbul, Turkey – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan launched a scathing attack on the West on Thursday, accusing it of failing to prevent the tragic events in Gaza and declaring that “there is no more trust” toward Western countries.
Addressing a ceremony for the Turkish Navy’s new warships, Erdogan delivered a fiery speech condemning the inaction of the West in the face of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He likened the situation in Gaza to the failures of international organizations in Iraq, Bosnia, Syria, and Somalia, accusing them of “confining themselves to idly watching acts of genocide and barbarism.”
“The organizations tasked with global security have suffered a fiasco,” Erdogan declared, calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the “Fuehrer of Modern Times” and accusing him of orchestrating atrocities against the Palestinian people.
The Turkish leader contrasted this perceived Western apathy with his own nation’s efforts toward conflict resolution. He pointed to Turkey’s role in hosting the Istanbul talks in March 2022, which aimed to find a peaceful solution to the Ukraine war.
“The importance of the process we initiated is better understood today,” Erdogan asserted. “Had that process…achieved its goal, tens of thousands would not have lost their lives.” He further warned that those who turn a blind eye to the situation in Gaza “will face disastrous consequences,” suggesting future Turkish action in the region.
