Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyan and Qatari officials met today to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on trade, economic cooperation, and leveraging expertise in sports development.
Mr. Abdishakur Hussein, Director of the Middle East Directorate at the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, held talks with H.E. Mohd Al-Enaz, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Kenya. This meeting followed an earlier engagement between the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, and the Qatari Ambassador.
The discussions centered on expanding trade and economic ties between the two nations. Possibilities for utilizing resources from the Qatar Fund for Development were also explored.
Recognizing Qatar’s successful hosting of the 2022 World Cup, the meeting also addressed how Kenya, as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), can benefit from Qatar’s experience and expertise in sports development. This knowledge-sharing is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring a successful AFCON 2027 for Kenya.
