The U.S. Mission in Nigeria recently launched a collaborative project aimed at safeguarding and promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage. Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield and Consul General Will Stevens unveiled the Cultural Property Agreement Implementation Grant (CPAIG) Project during a visit to the National Museum in Lagos.
This initiative, a partnership between The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Museum of Lagos, will see the creation of a digital inventory system. This system will streamline the cataloging and preservation of Nigeria’s invaluable artifacts.
“Preserving cultural heritage is a powerful way to honor the past, celebrate the present, and prepare for the future,” the U.S. Mission in Nigeria declared. The CPAIG Project represents a significant step forward not just in safeguarding these cultural treasures, but also in enhancing public access to them.
