Guyanese President, Dr. Irfaan Ali, announced a significant development in the country’s relationship with France. Following a meeting with French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné, the two nations signed a joint communique outlining plans for a French embassy in Guyana by 2025.
President Ali hailed this move as a symbol of deepening bilateral relations and France’s strategic positioning as Guyana’s key European Union partner. He highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries over recent years, expressing confidence that stronger diplomatic ties will enable them to tackle pressing global issues together.
The high-level discussions yielded further fruit with the establishment of a joint working group. This group will focus on fostering cooperation in crucial areas like climate change, food security, infrastructure development, technology, defense, and tourism.
President Ali was joined by a high-powered delegation from Guyana, including senior ministers and the Chief of Defence Staff, showcasing the nation’s commitment to this strengthened partnership.
