Riga, Latvia – Latvian and Norwegian officials met Wednesday to discuss regional security, European Union issues, and support for Ukraine.
Parliamentary Secretary Reinis Brusbārdis of Latvia’s Foreign Ministry highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) in the current geopolitical climate. Brusbārdis specifically emphasized this partnership’s role in ensuring regional security and resilience against various threats.
The discussions, which included State Secretary Andris Pelšs from Latvia and State Secretary Maria Varteressian of Norway, also touched on bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Pelšs commended Norway’s contribution through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, which has provided financial aid to Latvia, including support for Ukrainian refugees.
