Phocweni, Eswatini – The Phocweni Clinic received a major boost recently with the handover of a fully renovated medical unit barrack building. The project, undertaken by the U.S. Embassy in Eswatini, will significantly improve the living conditions for 48 essential healthcare workers stationed at the clinic.
“We are proud to have partnered with the Eswatini government, Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF), URC, Microprojects, and the community to make this renovation possible,” a U.S. Embassy statement said.
The upgraded facilities will ensure a more comfortable and secure living environment for the clinic’s medical staff. This is particularly significant as nearly 80% of those treated at Phocweni are civilians from the surrounding communities.
“Improved living conditions for healthcare workers directly translate to better quality care for patients,” the statement continued.
The project is part of the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Eswatini’s healthcare system. Through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the U.S. is investing in creating a safe and supportive work environment for all healthcare workers, a critical step in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the overall health of Eswatini’s citizens.
