Windhoek, Namibia – The U.S. Embassy in Namibia announced a significant investment in the country’s cultural heritage with the awarding of a $250,000 grant to the Namibia Craft Centre.
Ambassador Randy Berry announced the prestigious grant from the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) during a ceremony. The funds will be directed towards the renovation of Alte Feste, a recognized cultural heritage site under the custodianship of Namibia’s Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.
While celebrating the collaboration between the U.S. and Namibia, Ambassador Berry acknowledged the broader scope of the project. He emphasized the importance of continued efforts to fully realize Alte Feste’s potential, encouraging others to join the initiative and see the restoration through to completion.
Established by the U.S. Department of State, the AFCP is a program designed to support cultural preservation projects that align with U.S. foreign policy objectives. Its reach extends beyond historic buildings and archaeological sites, encompassing the languages, ceremonies, and customs of indigenous communities.
