Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, concluded a successful two-day working visit to Serbia on April 12th, 2024. The trip aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore potential avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
Minister Botchwey held productive talks with high-ranking Serbian officials, including President Aleksandar Vučić, Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić, and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić. Both nations expressed a strong desire to expand cooperation in areas like Information Technology, education, agriculture, sports, and parliamentary exchange programs. Discussions highlighted the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships, emphasizing the importance of deeper ties and extensive collaboration between Ghana and Serbia.
A key outcome of the visit was the exploration of establishing a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC). This framework would facilitate ongoing collaboration across diverse sectors, ensuring a structured approach to future partnerships.
Minister Botchwey also connected with Ghanaian participants in the “World in Serbia Programme,” along with students and trainees at diplomatic institutions in Belgrade. This interaction provided an opportunity to address their concerns and challenges while living in Serbia.
The visit culminated in two significant agreements. Firstly, Ghana and Serbia committed to holding Political Consultations, further solidifying diplomatic ties and fostering deeper collaboration. Secondly, Ghana announced plans to reopen its embassy in Serbia, a concrete step demonstrating their unwavering commitment to a stronger bilateral relationship.
