The 51st United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Regional Course kicked off at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. The two-week program brings together participants from 19 African countries to delve into critical economic issues impacting the region and beyond.
Officiating the opening ceremony, Ambassador Joseph Masila, Director of Economic Affairs and Commercial Diplomacy for Kenya, highlighted the course’s significance in fostering a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between trade, investment, finance, and development.
Ambassador Masila stressed the importance of equipping policymakers and government officials with the necessary skills to navigate the intricate economic landscape, particularly in the face of global challenges emerging from the pandemic.
Participants will engage in discussions and share insights on topical economic issues at the regional and global level, exploring their implications for national development strategies.
The course is led by UNCTAD officials under the coordination of Ms. Randa Jamal, with the participation of Professor Stephen Kiama, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.
