H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, has expressed his position on Dhaka-Beijing relations, stating that the two nations should seek a common ground for more cooperation in order to promote global peace and economic prosperity.
According to him, by maintaining an ally status for so long, the two countries have become strong economic and political partners. This, he believes, will engender citizen diplomacy and deepen citizen-to-citizen interaction.
He said this on Tuesday while speaking at the Defense Service Command and Staff College of Bangladesh (DSCSC). Amb. Wen was invited as a special guest to deliver a lecture at the gathering of more than 300 army officers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces and some representatives of foreign armies. Also present was the Commandant of the DSCSC of the Bangladesh Army, Major General Md. Faizur Rahman.
While delivering the lecture, Amb. Wen reiterated that China was committed to pursuing peace as part of its character. China’s pursuit of peace must be anchored in an independent foreign policy thrust. To advance this cause, China enunciated a Global Security Initiative.
He cited China’s demonstration of effort at global peace, saying that “the mediation of China ensured that Saudi Arabia and Iran reconciled with each other and resumed diplomatic relations.”
Speaking further on China’s visible advocacy for global peace, he referenced China’s involvement in UN peacekeeping missions and its attempt at brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia by seeking a permanent political solution to the war. He also spoke about its efforts in Bangladesh and Myanmar, where it is involved in the repatriation of the displaced people from Rakhine State.
In his closing remarks, he extolled China’s giant strides and the need for China and Bangladesh to join forces for the promotion of world peace.
