Washington, D.C. – The Black Professionals in International Affairs (BPIA) will host its first National BPIA Week from September 1-8, 2024, recognizing 35 years of advancing African American involvement in global affairs. This week-long series of events, themed “Elevate,” will present the contributions of African Americans and those of African descent in the international arena. Registration and ticket purchases open on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
During the week, BPIA will hold several key events. On Wednesday, September 4, a Virtual Conference and Career Fair will connect over 500 students with dozens of exhibitors, offering networking opportunities and an interactive fair. This digital gathering sets the stage for in-person celebrations later in the week.
Washington D.C. residents can look forward to the “First Friday: Block Party Edition” on September 6, featuring live Afrobeats music. The lively atmosphere of this community event leads into the more formal gatherings that follow.
On Saturday, September 7, the “Garden of Legends” Fundraising Gala and Afterparty will bring together BPIA members, sponsors, partners, congressional representatives, and industry leaders for an exclusive experience.
The week concludes with a CBC Week Kick-Off All-White Jazz Brunch at the John F. Kennedy Center on Sunday, September 8, convening over 200 policymakers, members of Congress, change agents, and industry leaders.
Furthermore, BPIA will honor two distinguished leaders: Sabrina Elba and Congresswoman Barbara Lee. Elba, an acclaimed actress, model, and advocate, has made substantial contributions to the fashion industry and social justice causes. Lee, representing California’s 12th District since 1998, holds the position of highest-ranking African American woman in Democratic Leadership as Co-Chair of the Policy and Steering Committee.
BPIA, established in 1989, continues its mission to increase African American participation in international affairs. The organization comprises leaders from various sectors and includes an Advisory Council of professionals with proven track records in policy, social, and financial impact.
As BPIA celebrates 35 years of excellence, National BPIA Week promises to be a memorable occasion that will inspire and unite the community while promoting the remarkable achievements of Black professionals in international affairs.
