The Deputy Secretary of the United States, Wendy Sherman held a meeting with NATO’s Deputy Secretary-General, Mircea Geoana on the path to sustain support for Ukraine.
In a meeting that took place in Washington D.C., Deputy Secretary Sherman discussed the various efforts geared towards providing assistance for Ukraine to conquer the Russian forces.
The Russia-Ukraine war has resulted in a significant number of casualties and loss of life.
This is not the first time Ukrainians have been promised huge support to defend their country.
The US Secretary, Antony Blinken had previously announced support for Ukraine stating that the US stands with the Ukrainians.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had also stated that the country is doing everything possible to be heard and not bow to the Russian forces.
There have been different invasion by Russian forces launching attacks in Ukraine’s cities, killing and injuring many. This has led to more countries evacuating their citizens, especially students in Ukraine’s universities.
As of March 2023, reports indicate that more than 8 million Ukrainians have been displaced, with many fleeing the country in search of safety
The meeting between Deputy Secretary of State Sherman and NATO Deputy Secretary-General Geoană also discussed the preparation for NATO Summit.
The summit is scheduled to hold by July 11-12 in Vilnius and will bring together different world powers.
Also, following the recent accession of Finland as NATO’s newest ally, the two Deputy Secretary welcomed their new member. They also mentioned the readiness of Sweden to join the NATO alliance.
