Harare, Zimbabwe – Dr Nevers Mumba, the Head of Mission of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to Zimbabwe, arrived in Harare on August 16, 2023.
Dr Mumba, the former Vice-President of Zambia, was appointed to the position by the Republic of Zambia, which is the incoming Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
The SEOM will be deployed to all ten provinces of Zimbabwe to observe the pre- and post-election phases and the polling day.
Before the launch of the SEOM, Dr Mumba will pay a courtesy call to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe and meet with the leadership of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and the SADC Ambassadors and High Commissioners Accredited to Zimbabwe.
The launch of the SEOM will be held on August 18, 2023, at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare. The event will include various election awareness activities for the electoral stakeholders.
The SEOM’s mission is to promote electoral integrity, electoral justice, good governance, peace, and stability in the SADC region.
The SADC Secretariat has invited ZEC, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, political parties, voters and citizens, traditional leaders, faith-based groups, civil society, members of the media, and diplomatic missions to attend the launch of the SEOM.
