Beijing, China: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a stark message to the United States on Friday, urging “imperative” cooperation despite simmering tensions between the two superpowers. Marking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Wang stressed that collaboration, not conflict, is the “most correct choice” for both nations and the world.
“China-U.S. cooperation is no longer an option,” Wang declared in a keynote speech. “It’s a necessity we must seriously address.” His statement comes as the relationship remains strained over national security, trade, and territorial disputes in the South China Sea. Recent incidents like competing military drills and accusations of airspace violations have further heightened anxieties.
Wang urged the U.S. to adopt a more “inclusive” attitude, respecting China’s development path and choices, particularly in safeguarding its sovereignty. He pledged China’s commitment to building a “stable” and “sustainable” relationship based on mutual respect.
