White House national security adviser John Bolton said Tuesday that North Korea is not living up to a deal to denuclearize.

“It’s just North Korea that has not taken the steps we feel are necessary to denuclearize,” Bolton said on Fox News.

“What we really need is not more rhetoric,” Bolton said. “What we need is performance from North Korea on denuclearization.”

Over the weekend, Bolton told Fox News that “nobody in this Trump administration” was “starry-eyed” about North Korea giving up its nuclear weapons, as leader Kim Jong Un had agreed to do so following a June 12 meeting with President Trump in Singapore.

In late June, satellite images of North Korea
showed the country was still operating a nuclear research center.

In response to Kim’s defiance, Bolton said Sunday the US will not ease sanctions against the country until they have proof of compliance.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is prepared to return to the peninsula country to meet with Kim over the issue, according to Bolton.

Trump wrote Kim saying he is ready to sit down with the North Korean leader again. That letter was given to a Korean government official over the weekend, according to Reuters.
