Cambridge Partnership for Education and HP have teamed up to launch the HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellowship in Sub-Saharan Africa according to a press release from Cambridge Partnership for Education. This program is designed to bring leaders from the government, NGOs, and businesses together to enhance digital transformation in education systems across the continent. The seven-month fellowship program aims to provide senior officials with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead effective EdTech transformations in their respective education systems.

Although there is widespread recognition that technology will play a crucial role in the future of education in Africa, COVID-19 has revealed significant challenges in implementing EdTech programs. The Fellowship aims to address this issue by providing tailored training delivered through a residential course in Cambridge, online study, and executive coaching. The program will also offer full and 80% scholarships for senior government officials from select countries.

The Fellowship will be led by experts from the Digital Education Futures Initiative (DEFI) at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge, and NGO OpenDevEd. Leaders will graduate as HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellows and become part of an alumni network that works to overcome common challenges in improving education through technology. They will be supported by experts who will provide guidance on issues ranging from connectivity and devices to digital content creation and digital skills for learners and teachers.

The program has been designed to improve digital equity in education and promote inclusive access to skills, knowledge, services, and opportunities. Mayank Dhingra, Senior Education Business Leader, Southern Europe, Middle East, and Africa at HP said that “bridging the digital divide across the continent” is essential to support educational transformation in Africa. Applications for the Fellowship are now open, and successful candidates will receive access to a three-month certified online EdTech course covering the basics of the full program.
