The Years of Culture initiative, led by Qatar Museums, has announced a new partnership with Qatari entrepreneur and athlete, Ali bin Towar al-Kuwari, as the CultuRide Ambassador. Al-Kuwari will lead the two-day CultuRide tour in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as part of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture, bringing together athletes and cycling enthusiasts from both countries to explore historical sites according to Gulf Times.

The initiative, spearheaded by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, aims to foster understanding and friendships through sports, arts, education, and innovation, with lasting impacts beyond the formal programming period.

The Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture celebrates the friendship and collaboration between the two countries, sharing their heritage, values, traditions, and innovations. Developed in collaboration with various organizations in Qatar, including Doha Film Institute, Qatar Charity, and Qatar National Library, among others, the initiative seeks to promote global connections through cultural exploration and sports.

Al-Kuwari’s role as the CultuRide Ambassador is to represent Qatar and promote cross-cultural collaboration through sports and cultural exchange. In addition to the CultuRide tour, he and his team are also preparing two documentaries that will highlight the shared traditions and practices between Qatar and Indonesia, further contributing to the deepening of cultural bonds and mutual understanding.

The Years of Culture initiative has successfully celebrated several Years of Culture in the past, including Qatar-Japan, Qatar-UK, Qatar-Brazil, and others, with the support of trusted partners and close collaboration between various organizations and corporations in Qatar, under the guidance of Qatar Museums.

The selection of Ali bin Towar al-Kuwari as the CultuRide Ambassador underscores the importance of sports in promoting cross-cultural cooperation. Through activities such as the CultuRide tour and documentaries, Qatar and Indonesia are fostering greater understanding, friendship, and mutual respect between their cultures.
