In today’s interconnected world, companies face complex global challenges that require deep understanding of international affairs. Brittany Masalosalo, Chief Public Policy Officer at HP Inc., brings her extensive experience to bear on these issues. The Black Professionals in International Affairs (BPIA) recently recognized Masalosalo’s contributions, reflecting the growing need for diverse perspectives in global business leadership.
Brittany Masalosalo’s career spans both government service and corporate leadership roles. She served as a senior advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy at the White House, where she gained firsthand experience in shaping international policy. Her time at the Pentagon in the Office of the Secretary of Defense further honed her expertise in global affairs.
Masalosalo also served in the U.S. Army, completing two deployments to Iraq. This military experience provided her with on-the-ground insights into complex international situations. Currently, she leads HP Inc.’s Government Affairs team, applying her wealth of knowledge to guide the company’s global strategy.
In recognition of her accomplishments, BPIA awarded Masalosalo their Pioneer Award at their 35th anniversary event. This accolade acknowledges her contributions to the field of international affairs and her role in bridging the gap between public policy and corporate strategy.
In her brief acceptance speech, Masalosalo expressed firm belief in international affairs expertise as essential for private sector success in today’s global economy. Quoting her friend, Jami Miscik, former CEO of the Kissinger Institute, who stated, “Every company needs a foreign policy agenda.” This sentiment encapsulates the idea that businesses must understand and engage with international dynamics to navigate global challenges effectively.
In addition, Brittany spoke about her pride in being a Black woman in a predominantly white, male-dominated field. Whether representing HP at the World Economic Forum in Davos or on other international platforms, she often finds herself as the only Black woman in the room. She said, “Few things fill me with joy more than when I get to enter the global arena… as a Black woman. But far too often, I am the only one in the room.”
