Washington D.C. – On July 1, 2024, the Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC hosted a lively event for Canada’s 157th birthday. Neighbors, friends, and family gathered to honor the country’s heritage and robust ties with the United States.
Canada Day originated on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act united three colonies – United Canadas (now Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick – into a single dominion within the British Empire. This confederation created Canada as a nation, though it remained part of the British Empire.
Ambassador Kirsten Hillman welcomed guests to the embassy grounds, adorned with red and white decorations. She discussed the enduring partnership between Canada and the US, noting how both countries lead together on various global issues.
