Five Chinese were recently denied entry into Russia, the Chinese embassy in Moscow said, frowning at such an action. In its report, the embassy condemned the act, saying that it was “brutal and excessive law enforcement by Russia.”
According to the Chinese embassy, such actions are capable of destroying the investment of Chinese citizens in Russia as well as their rights to live and work within Russian territory.
The incident took place on July 29, when five Chinese citizens were held and grilled for close to 4 hours.
They were refused entry into the country and had their tourist visas cancelled by Russian immigration and security officers.
The incident was a huge surprise to many, as China is a known ally of Russia and recently displayed this when it refused to criticize Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.
Days before the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, China signed dotted papers with Russia in what was considered an open diplomatic partnership designed to ensure that their relations have no limits and may include diverse areas other than culture, economics, and military.
Both countries have, over the years, become fiercely closer and have had a series of high-powered diplomatic meetings, most of them involving the presidents of the two countries.
It is expected that Moscow will address the issues quickly and take adequate steps to forestall a likely reoccurrence.
