Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský embarked on a highly productive working trip to Angola on June 13, 2023, with the primary objective of fortifying bilateral relations between Angola and Czech Republic while also addressing the concerning issue of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
The visit commenced in Luanda, where Minister Lipavský met with Foreign Minister Téte Antonio. With a resolute determination to reinvigorate the ties between their respective nations, Minister Lipavský emphasized the immense potential for robust trade and investment. “We are ready to give a new impetus to the relations between our two countries. We see huge potential for the development of mutual trade and investment. Our companies are ready to offer Angola what it needs to diversify its economy. At the same time, we share common challenges with Angola. One of them is the rising food prices caused by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine,” said Minister Lipavský.
In a clear demonstration of commitment, he extended a warm invitation to a business delegation led by the Confederation of Industry and Transport, eager to explore collaborative prospects in crucial sectors such as energy, geological research, environmental protection, and agriculture.
Continuing the diplomatic discussions, Minister Lipavský inaugurated a compelling business seminar at the Ministry of Economy and Planning. Entrepreneurs and representatives from the Czech business delegation showcased a diverse array of offerings, underscoring their expertise in cutting-edge fields like medical technology, agriculture, and engineering.
Furthermore, Minister Lipavský engaged in a fruitful working meeting with Angolan Minister of Planning and Economy Mario Joao, who brought invaluable insights gained from his years of living and studying in Czechia and fluency in Czech.
A significant highlight of Minister Lipavský’s visit was his constructive dialogue with Angolan Minister of Defence Joao Ernesto dos Santos. The discussions revolved around advancing the strategic partnership between the two nations and bolstering the modernization of Angolan defense equipment. Minister Lipavský conveyed Czechia’s unwavering support, alongside that of the European Union, in Angola’s efforts to uphold security on the African continent. Expressing deep gratitude, Minister Lipavský acknowledged Angola’s vital vote in the General Assembly, where Russia’s audacious attempt to annex Ukrainian territories was unequivocally condemned.
Wrapping up the eventful day, Minister Lipavský had the pleasure of meeting Angolan scholarship holders who had previously pursued their education at esteemed Czech universities. These accomplished graduates stand as living testaments to the enduring bonds and flourishing collaboration between the two nations, serving as inspirational figures for future generations.
Minister Lipavský’s visit to Angola forms part of a broader working trip that encompasses Zambia as well. Spanning from June 12 to 16, 2023, this comprehensive journey aims to foster robust economic cooperation, provide support for essential development projects in southern Africa, and engage in high-level discussions addressing pressing geopolitical issues, including the concerning Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Accompanying Minister Lipavský is a distinguished business delegation orchestrated by the Confederation of Industry and Transport, which further strengthens the collaborative ties and partnership between Czechia and the countries being visited.
