In a grand finale to mark the end of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Embassy of Spain in Nigeria is hosting a special flamenco performance entitled “Picasso en Tierra Flamenca” (Picasso in Flamenco Land). The event will be held on December 8, 2023, by 6:00 PM at the Auditorium of the National Universities Commission, Abuja.

Flamenco is an artistic expression that fuses song, dance, and music and originated in Andalusia, southern Spain. With this new performance, the Compañía Anabel Veloso dance group invites the general public to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of flamenco as they travel through the fascinating region of Andalusia.

In “Picasso en Tierra Flamenca,” this dynamic music and dance spectacle serves as a tribute to the land that inspired the legendary artist Pablo Picasso, whose 50th death anniversary is commemorated this year.

The performance will explore the different ramifications of flamenco, from the intensity of the Jondo Chant to the sensuality of the Sevillanas. These elements will be intertwined with the verses of the Andalusian poet.

With the National Universities Commission generously supporting, and in collaboration with Transcorp-Hilton and JIREH Communications, admission to “Picasso en Tierra Flamenca” is free. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone has the chance to participate in the celebration of Spanish art and culture.
