The newly appointed Iranian envoy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, said that the peace agreement between Tehran and Riyadh wasn’t only commendable but would be a huge benefit for all the countries within the region.
He stated that both Iran and Saudi Arabia have shown commitment and willingness to pursue peace and restore all frozen ties that have lasted for so long.
He also said that the détente between both countries will benefit them too. In his words, “The benefits of Iran-Saudi rapprochement are not polarized”.
Amb. Enayati understands the importance of good neighborliness in relations between and among nations. This came into full view when he said that countries cannot claim to take their internal security seriously without considering their relationship with their neighbors.
He also expressed his opinion on the events in and around the Persian Gulf, saying that he hopes to see a new order where countries can take care of their security concerns without seeking external help.
The new envoy recalled that five rounds of talks were initiated between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, with the first ever held in Muscat, Oman.
After a series of meetings and enduring failures to reach an agreement, China came in to eventually broker a peace deal.
The outcome was a détente between the two countries.
Since détente was reached, the two countries have resolved to mutually engage in areas of mutual interest such as economy and trade, military and peace, culture, and technology.
To further strengthen its position in the Gulf, the envoy said that “Iran is looking to expand ties with other regional countries. It has already made constructive moves in the case of Kuwait and the Emirates.”
He expressed his reservations for Israel, whom he also accused of being the pivot of destabilization in the region.
Iran and Saudi Arabia have been in a long-drawn diplomatic brawl, leading to over seven years of lack of diplomatic communication.
In March, China stepped in to revive one of the longest diplomatic collapses of modern times by taking a huge step in bringing both parties to agree to a peace deal.
And in just two months, Saudi Arabia had approved the reopening of Iran’s embassy in their country.
