New York, New York – His Excellency Stavros Lambrinidis, the European Union’s Ambassador to the United Nations, recently played a crucial role in advancing diplomatic initiatives focused on multilateral cooperation and human rights through a series of key meetings.
On Monday, April 22, 2024, Ambassador Lambrinidis convened a meeting with distinguished colleagues, including Paula Narváez of Chile, President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and Adonia Ayebare, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations and Chair of the Group of 77 (G77). They discussed united strategies to further the United Nations’ objectives, highlighting the critical role of international collaboration in overcoming common challenges.
Midweek, Ambassador Lambrinidis and his EU counterparts held a strategic planning session termed a “mini-retreat” to prepare for the upcoming Summit of the Future in September 2024. The summit aims to build upon the SDG Summit and deliver an action-oriented Pact for the Future to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As the week progressed, Ambassador Lambrinidis hosted the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, to reaffirm the EU’s dedication to promoting and safeguarding human dignity globally.
He later shared a poignant message on Facebook, stating: “If our work leads to anything, it must be human dignity for all people. There are hopeful human rights stories every day, everywhere, doing just that! We must all own them, multiply them, and disseminate that hope.”
Ambassador Lambrinidis continues to be a committed leader in diplomatic initiatives at the United Nations, championing multilateralism and human rights to encourage cooperation and drive positive global transformation.
